Medical acupuncture
· What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of small needles in specific anatomic sites on the body. Acupuncture stimulates local nerves, which then release chemicals that affect other nearby nerves, muscle and vessels, and also communicates with the whole nervous system. The nervous system is stimulated to release hormones that relieve pain, reduce inflammation, increase circulation and promote healing. Electro-acupuncture may be used to enhance the nerve stimulation.

· What animals can benefit from acupuncture?
In the words of her hero, James Herriot, ‘All creatures great and small’! Dr. Edoff treats dogs, cats, horses, cattle, goats, sheep, llamas, alpacas, pigs, rabbits, chickens and other exotic animals on a case-by-case basis.
· What can I expect?
Dr. Edoff will choose specific acupuncture points based on your pet’s condition and history, her physical assessment of your pet and your pet’s tolerance to the needles. Acupuncture is very safe and relatively painless. Patient response may vary from not noticing needle insertion to mild reactions. Most patients relax and enjoy their treatments! Some patients will have an immediate response to treatment, while others will improve after a few treatments. On occasion your pets condition may worsen before it gets better.
